This little hedgehog creature was allegedly discovered in the 1900s by a Bowness boatman. With a hedgehog's body, wings and feelers like a bee, and the tail of a squirrel or fox. The Bowness Boatman told tourists about his exciting encounter, with this extraordinary creature in the towns hotel, The Stag's Head Hotel.
In 1906 The Boatman's Grandson Caught the creature and rushed to get it's picture taken at the Louis Herbert's Photographic Studio. The Tizzie-Wizzie was supposedly squealing and struggling to get away. The Boatman's grandson managed to calm this curious little creature down, with some warm milk and ginger biscuits, before taking this picture we see here. Straight after this picture was taken the Tizzie-Wizzie escaped by jumping up and flying out of the window.
There was hunts held to capture the Tizzie-Wizzie, an American offered £5 for is capture, dead or alive. The Boatman would lead the hunts, apparently some tourists or hunters would accidentally end up the lake. The Boatman was to of said that the Tizzie-Wizzie moved to Belle Isle. When asked by people, "why can't we see them fly over the lake?" the Boatman's response was they're are excellent underwater swimmers".
There's not much information on the Tizzie-Wizzie, or the Boatman and grandson but of course I like to have some sort of conclusion for this creature's existence, and a picture from the 1900 should this for me.
But it doesn't, I will research more into the Bowness Boatman, in another Blog.
